Quick answer

Start a new book in Outloud Reader and choose how the text comes in: Camera or Gallery for a page, handwriting or a screenshot, PDF for a file, Text to paste it, or AI Text for a new text at your level. It’s read aloud in a natural voice, each phrase highlighted as it’s spoken. Choose another language first and it’s translated before it’s read.

Six ways in,
a guide for each.

Pick the one that fits what you have to read. Up to 50 pages go into one book.

Paper books

Photo to speech

Photograph page after page. The app finds the page in each photo and crops it; you can adjust the frame or use the photo as it is.

E-books

PDF to speech

Have a PDF read aloud: open it, choose which pages to listen to, and crop away headers, footers and page numbers you don’t want read out.

Articles

Text to speech

Paste an article, an email or your own notes. It’s split into pages and read aloud like any other book.

Spanish, A2

AI texts at your level

Describe a topic or tap Surprise me: a story, a dialogue or an article is written at your level, A1 to C2, then read aloud as you follow.

Lecture notes

Handwriting to speech

Photograph handwritten notes, a letter or a recipe, and hear it read aloud, each phrase highlighted. Clear handwriting reads best.

Chats

Screenshot to speech

Pick a screenshot or a picture of text from your gallery, a chat, a post or a slide, and hear it read aloud, each phrase highlighted.

Your next page, read aloud.
